The
Department of Health is considering using London’s military barracks to house
nurses in a bid to solve the public workers housing shortage.
The
lack of affordable housing in the capital is hampering recruitment and
retention in the NHS and there has been a dialogue with the Army about using
barracks to accommodate nursing staff.

Reports
in the Daily Mail and Telegraph suggest the Government is considering the plan
and the Ministry of Defence has offered to move the soldiers out.
