The BBC has appointed Andrea Callender as head of diversity. She will
co-ordinate the BBC’s objective to fully reflect the diversity of the UK, both
in its programmes, and in the make-up of the BBC staff. Callender said: "I
am excited about the prospect of working with the BBC to make it a more diverse
place." She will begin her new role at the BBC in mid-April.
Anita Graham (pictured) has been appointed to the newly-created position of
executive vice-president of HR at Shire Pharmaceuticals Group. She will be a
member of Shire’s executive committee and will be responsible for leading the
company’s global HR team. Her experience spans all aspects of HR, including
mergers and acquisitions, employee relations and compensation and benefits.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has announced two
appointments to its 2004 board of directors. R Roosevelt Thomas and Rita
Bennett both bring a wealth of HR experience to the association.
Larry Hirst, general manager of IBM UK and Ireland, has been appointed
chairman of e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for IT, telecoms and contact
centres. He said: "I believe firmly in the need to improve skills in these
sectors at every level for the benefit of the UK economy."
