Carolyn Smith is the new director of development at Investors in People UK,
the workforce development group. Smith joins from British Airways, where she
had a varied management career, most recently serving as head of community
relations. In her last role, she was in charge of corporate social
responsibility at the airline. She will now play a strategic role in the
development of the Investors in People Standard and will be responsible for
liaising with employees and trade unions to increase awareness about its
benefits.

The BBC Worldwide director of HR, Bob McCall (pictured), has been appointed
vice-president international of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development (CIPD). He takes on this honorary, non-executive role for a two-year
period while continuing with his BBC duties. McCall will help the CIPD provide
leadership in the development and promotion of the institute’s policies in
areas relating to international personnel and development. He will also help
identify research opportunities on international subjects.
The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group has appointed its first head of HR
to help support and develop its growing workforce. The on-farm conservation
adviser has recruited Anne Smith from Warwickshire Fire Service. She has more
than 20 years of HR experience split between the public and private sector. Her
main role will be to develop a raft of HR policies to provide support and
development to staff.
