Co-operative Funeralcare has appointed Carol Whittaker as its new HR
manager. She joins from pharmaceuticals firm AstraZeneca where she was also HR
manager. Prior to this she worked in the HR department at BAE Systems.
Whittaker joins the executive team of the funeral business where she will be
responsible for developing the strategic direction of HR. The group employs
about 2,500 staff at 500 funeral homes.

Sean Harriss has joined Oldham Council to help strengthen corporate performance
as the new assistant chief executive for people and quality. He will also be
responsible for advising on the efficient and effective use of HR and for
creating a positive, customer-focused performance within the council’s
services. His brief also involves bringing about better community cohesion,
modernising the council, encouraging more cross-boundary working with other
councils to benefit residents, and acting as an ambassador to project both
Oldham and the local authority on to the regional and national stage. Harriss
joins Oldham from Bolton Council.
Professor Chris Brewster, a global expert in international human resource
management, has joined the Faculty of Henley Management College. Brewster is
professor in International Human Resource Management. His new role will
encompass contributing to Henley’s HR Forum, MBA programmes and Executive
Education activities, as well as continuing research into international HRM and
presenting at international conferences and seminars.
