Employers will have to pay £12 to check if a potential
employee is listed in the new Criminal Records Bureau, the Home Office
announced yesterday.
Organisations will be able to run staff checks from summer 2001.
While some checks are already made, they are limited to a
tightly defined group such as local authorities, the health sector and a small
number of voluntary groups. Many more companies and voluntary organisations
will be able to use the service.
