The
Association of Healthcare Human Resource Management has changed its name to
more accurately reflect the direction the organisation is moving in.
The
change, to become the Healthcare People Management Association, was announced
at the conference and agreed at its AGM.
Elaine
Way also ended her
two-year tenure as president, handing over to Mike Pyrah, Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust chief
executive.
She
told delegates that HR professionals in the health service must have the
courage to try new things and not be afraid to fail.
"In
the health service it is often the HR community that has the most enthusiasm
and energy, but there is still a lot more work to do," she said.

"Chief
executives [of trusts] don’t see HR as it should be seen."
Way also announced a £250,000 joint research project with the
Department of Health and Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development. Improving Health Through
HRM will look at how HR practices influence the quality of healthcare. The
research will be undertaken in two phases, with the first results expected
after 12 months.
