Phased return to work is best rehab for staff

A
survey on the rehabilitation practices of 896 smaller manufacturing workplaces
shows that only 53.1 per cent have written policies covering long-term absence
and rehabilitation.

However,
the research by IRS and the manufacturers’ organisation EEF also shows more
than eight in 10 (83.4 per cent) offer rehabilitation to staff on sick leave.

The
findings show that the role of GPs in managing long-term sick leave is heavily
criticised by employers, and that a phased return to work is favoured as the
most effective rehabilitation method.  www.irsemploymentreview.com, 020
