The Society of Personnel Officers in the Public Sector (Socpo) is to recruit a chief executive and seek Limited Company status.
Currently the president of Socpo, elected from the membership for a one-year term, effectively combines the role with that of chief officer.
The appointment of a full-time chief executive will allow the president to concentrate on “speaking up for the public sector’s HR community”, said Socpo president Jan Parkinson.
“Socpo has changed markedly in recent years; we have expanded from a local government organisation, to one that represents HR staff across the public sector,” she said.

“The best way to ensure that we remain an effective and vocal representative of public sector HR people is to combine the commitment and passion of our membership with the rigorous approach of a full-time chief executive and professional staff.”
Parkinson will be replaced as president next year by Angela O’Connor, HR director at the Crown Prosecution Service.
