The majority of HR professionals want to see the CIPD become a campaigning
body according to Personnel Today’s News Barometer research.
Seven out of 10 of the 161 HR professionals who responded to the online
survey want the body to take a more proactive stance.
CIPD director-general Geoff Armstrong argues that the CIPD already does this
to some degree.

"We don’t see ourselves as lobbyist or shop stewards for the profession
– we influence quietly," Armstrong told Personnel Today at the CIPD
conference.
"We take part in confidential focus groups where ideas are floated
before they ever see the light of day. They [Employers and the HR profession]
have other outlets for campaigning – the CBI, the Chambers of Commerce or trade
bodies," he added.
