A
trade union for rock music roadies was launched at last weekend’s Glastonbury
Festival.
Singer
Billy Bragg and Coldplay have supported the move. It is believed that thousands
of road crew workers could join.
The
Roadcrew Provident Syndicate will be a branch of the GMB.
Billy
Bragg said: "Everybody is worried about pensions provision these days and
roadcrew are not immune to such concerns.
"It
about time that we made sure that our co-workers were looked after in this
department.
"The
GMB has vast experience in looking after the needs of people who have unusual
jobs such as club doormen, sex workers and mini-cab drivers. They will bring
real clout to syndicate members."
