Severe delays expected in railways manslaughter trial

The
trial of rail bosses facing manslaughter charges in connection with the
Hatfield train disaster may not start until September 2004.

The
case is not expected to end until the beginning of 2005.

Six
men from Network Rail (now Railtrack) and Balfour Beatty have been charged with
four counts of manslaughter due to gross negligence and an offence under the
Health and Safety at Work Act.

Four
people died in October 2000, when a GNER train derailed near Hatfield,
Hertfordshire.
