Shopworkers
union Usdaw is launching a campaign to protect retail staff from violent
robbers and abusive customers.
Usdaw
is taking its ‘Freedom from Fear’ campaign to employers, local authorities the
police and the Government in a bid to cut down the level of abuse aimed at
retail staff.
Deputy
general secretary John Hannett said more than 20,000 staff were physically
attacked last year while more than 30,000 were threatened or abused.
The
union is collecting signatures for a petition urging the Government to
intervene.
