A
salesman has claimed that he was sacked after only one day in his new job
for admitting that he smokes in his
free time.
Boxes
and Packaging, a Swindon-based manufacturing firm, allegedly dismissed the
sales executive after the managing director’s wife discovered that he was a
smoker outside of work.
Mark
Hodges, who was warned of the company’s strict no-smoking policy at interview,
claims that despite not smoking during working hours or in his company car, he
was still dismissed.
He
says he had no intention of lighting up at work and even offered to sign a
contract promising that he wouldn’t smoke four hours before starting his daily
duties.
