The Society of Chief Personnel Officers (Socpo) has voted
overwhelmingly to extend the society’s membership to all personnel officers in
local government.
Over 75 per cent of its membership that voted were in favour
of the expansion, and the organisation could increase from 450 members to over
5,000.
“It’s time that Socpo stopped being an exclusive
organisation and started to look after the interests of all local government
members and not just departmental heads,” said Terry Gorman president of Socpo.
Gorman will chair the working group of senior officers who
will implement the plan. The working group intends to provide detailed plans to
its current membership at the society’s AGM in Brighton next month.
