HR
director of mining giant Anglo Platinum Eric Ngubane has described the massive
challenges facing businesses in South Africa.
“The
country has come from an isolated background and it has been a culture shock,”
he told Personnel Today. “We have had to look again at the way we did things
and we have had to restructure and be more
competitive.”
He
said there is a huge training issue for staff who lack technical and IT skills.
Ngubane
studied at Warwick University and London Business School. He said there is an
acute shortage of experienced black HR directors and he has headhunters phoning
him every week.
