The
HR director of troubled steel company Corus has denied reports that up to
two-thirds of the workforce could lose their jobs next month.
Allan
Johnston told Personnel Today that the management is meeting with union
representatives next week to try to avoid the first strike in the steel
industry for 20 years.
"We
are meeting the ISTC union on Monday to discuss the reported strike action. Nothing
will be announced until the end of the month. Everything that has been reported
is pure speculation," he said.
Reports
have suggested that 22,000 jobs could be cut as the Anglo-Dutch company reduces
its capacity.
