A
group of steelworkers are set to take industrial action in a bid to defend
their final salary pension scheme.

Ananova reports that more than 100 members of the Iron and Steel Trades
Confederation at the Caparo Merchant Bar factory in Scunthorpe will begin an
overtime ban tomorrow.
They
are believed to be the first UK workers to take industrial action over
pensions.
The
website reports that the company is closing its final salary scheme tomorrow,
and replacing it with a stakeholder scheme.

further 100 ISTC members at the Caparo Natural Gas Tubes plant in Tredegar,
South Wales, will launch an overtime ban next Tuesday. Workers at both
factories have voted to strike, if necessary.
