The Heritage Lottery Fund has given a £7m lifeline to the UK’s dying traditional craft industries.
Less than 40,000 craftspeople are now properly qualified to help maintain the nation’s historic environment. Millwrighters (who maintain and repair traditional mills), reed-cutters (who produce thatch for roofing) and dry stone wallers are among those who will be able to claim funds to run apprenticeships to pass on their skills to a new generation of workers.
