Personnel Today

Time to strut your HR stuff

by Personnel Today 24 Feb 2004
by Personnel Today 24 Feb 2004

This week, we are launching the Personnel Today Awards 2004 with a mission
to put the spotlight on the best that HR can offer in the UK.

We’re looking for HR’s unsung heroes – the teams making a big difference in
organisations of all shapes and sizes across the UK. We want to honour those
teams making an impact with their people policies and delivering great
bottom-line business benefits.

If your HR department has been courageous in implementing change, has
exceptional qualities or has achieved great results in the past 18 months, then
Personnel Today wants to hear about it.

The search is on to find the best HR pioneers and innovators for the 2004
Personnel Today Awards and this year there are more opportunities than ever to
become a finalist. For the first time, we are drawing up a shortlist of four
teams for each category. And with 13 categories in this year’s line-up, that
means a record 52 teams will be spotlighted on the pages of Personnel Today,
Personneltoday.com and the dedicated awards website, Personneltodayawards.com.

If you are keen to reward your department’s initiatives, think about what
you have done, how you have pulled it off and what the benefits have been for
the organisation as a whole. The key is to demonstrate to the judges that you have
understood organisational goals and have evidence to support your achievements.

After reading the category descriptions, entrants must submit no more than
1,000 words explaining what a team has done and why, and what positive outcomes
it has brought to the business or organisation. There will be independent
judges in each category and all entries will be measured against the following
five criteria:

– Innovation – what was different, new, and unique about your actions?

– Teamwork – who was involved, how did they pull together, what made the
team successful?

– Leadership – who led the project and what were the hallmarks of their
leadership?

– Effective use of resources – what resources were available and how were
they maximised?

– HR’s contribution to the business – what were the positive outcomes, how
can you prove HR’s effectiveness?

Judges will assess your written entries plus supporting material and then
choose four of the best teams from each category. These teams will then be
profiled in the magazine and on our websites. All shortlisted teams will be
invited to a glittering awards dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on
25 November, where the winners will be announced.

Award entries are free, and simply by making an effort, you could give your
team and organisation the recognition they deserve. Previous winners have
included Asda, Lloyds TSB, British Gas, Nationwide and Hertfordshire County
Council.

More details are available online at www.personneltodayawards.com
The deadline for award entries is Friday 4 June.
