Up to 700 draymen at Carlsberg UK have received a 10% pay rise.
The deal, negotiated by the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G), puts drivers on just over £24,000 annually, with a £1,250 bonus now included in basic pay. Wages will then rise by 0.4% above inflation next year, based on the March 2008 retail price index.
The deal was accepted by a majority of more than 60%.
Joe Clarke, T&G regional industrial organiser, said a key part of the deal was to put into place a new-starter rate covering the first six months’ employment. This is designed to transfer temporary and agency staff onto the permanent payroll.

“The inclusion of the new starter rate gives a welcome opportunity for current agency and temporary staff at Carlsberg to gain full-time employment,” added Clarke.
