The
TUC has designated 27 February as national ‘work your proper hours’ day.
As
part of the ‘It’s about time!’ campaign – designed to tackle the UK’s
long-hours culture – the TUC will be calling on staff who do regular unpaid
overtime to work only their contractual hours, to remind bosses just how much
modern workplaces depend on unpaid overtime.
The
TUC claims workers do unpaid overtime worth £23bn.
The
average time put in by more than five million workers performing unpaid
overtime was seven hours 24 minutes a week, worth £4,500 a year in extra
salary.
