Unemployment
fell again last month the latest figures have revealed.
The
number of people claiming unemployment benefits fell 12,000 to 963,700 in June,
the lowest level since October 1975, according to the Office for National
Statistics.
But Wednesday’s ONS report
also revealed a 6.7% fall in the number of vacancies advertised in state
Jobcentres, the biggest drop for at least two years.
Job
creation has been driven by firms in the service sector, where the number of
overall posts rose by 227,000 in March, the report revealed.
But the number of jobs in UK
production industries fell by 148,000, reflecting the manufacturing slump which
experts fear has brought the sector into recession.
