Unemployment rates in the Philippines have fallen in recent months, despite
a shaky economy and the global economic slowdown. The unemployment rate dropped
to 10.7% in the year to July, compared with a figure of 11.2% for the previous
12-month period. During the year, the Philippines’ workforce grew by 6.7%,
meaning that some 300,000 people entered the labour pool looking for work.
Employment increased in all of the Philippines’ three major economic sectors –
industry, services and agriculture.
