The
Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) has called for the establishment
of an industry-wide forum to restore security and stability to the UK’s oil industry
workers.
The
union claims the sector is suffering from a ‘profit first’ culture, which is
leading to high labour turnover, poor safety procedures and the erosion of
pensions and pay agreements.
The
union wants the forum to involve oil companies, transport businesses and the
trade union to discuss the future of the petroleum delivery sector, negotiate
greater safety and security and deliver an improvement in working conditions.

T&G
general secretary Bill Morris said: "An industry responsible for the
delivery of such vital and hazardous materials cannot continue to put the
pursuit of profit before safety and stability and must work with the Government
and the unions to avert further problems."
