Unions to call for pensions reforms at TUC conference

by Personnel Today 3 Sep 2004
by Personnel Today 3 Sep 2004

Trade
unions will demand new laws requiring all employers to contribute 10 per cent
of staff salary to pension funds at this year’s TUC conference later this
month, according to Amicus.

Unions
will also call for a compulsory 5 per cent staff contribution and tax reforms
to benefit lower-income pensioners.

Also
at the conference, Bradford & Bingley
union UBAC will accuse the Government of failing to act on promises to protect
the pensions of staff caught up in mergers and takeovers.

The
union said: “Every time this issue has been raised at congress the Government
has made encouraging statements while failing to put the problem right.”

The
TUC conference will be held in Brighton
on 12-13 September. For more information visit www.tuc.org.uk
