John
Hannett has today taken over as general secretary of Usdaw, the UK’s fifth
biggest union.
Hannett
was formerly the union’s deputy general secretary.
He
said: "I’m delighted to be taking over at such a positive time for Usdaw.
As one of the fastest growing trade unions in the UK, we have much to be upbeat
and confident about.
"Usdaw
organises in many industries, and you simply cannot afford to stand still in
any of them. Retail in particular is a dynamic, ever-changing industry,"
he added. "We have to keep up with the many changes, anticipate them where
possible and respond accordingly.
"We
are making progress on many levels, and that’s down to our army of reps working
hard to recruit and organise."
