BT donates £45,000 from staff share scheme to charities chosen by employees

BT, HBOS and Lloyds TSB have given £45,000 from a BT staff share scheme to charities chosen by employees.


The BT Employee Share Ownership scheme offers employees the opportunity to buy BT shares at a discount using the proceeds of savings contracts with the Halifax.


A small amount of money is often left over when this option is taken up, and this amounted to £15,000 when two BT share plans matured this financial year.


HBOS Employee Equity Solutions, which administers the plan, gave a further £15,000, as did Lloyds TSB Registrars, which provides BT shareholders with a share dealing service.

BT director of corporate governance, Alan Scott, said: “BT is delighted to be able to make these generous donations to charities that genuinely reflect the interests of our employees.”


The charities that received donations of £5,000 each were:




  • Addison’s Disease Self Help Group


  • The British Wireless for the Blind Fund


  • Get Kids Going


  • The National Deaf Children’s Society


  • The Not Forgotten Association


  • Vitalise


  • The Way Foundation (Widowed and Young)


  • ChildLine


  • The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
