Transport problems cost small business £755m a year

Poor transport infrastructure is reportedly costing small businesses £755m a year, according to research.

More than one third of businesses said they were losing up to £10,000 a year because UK roads and railways are “simply not good enough”, said Bibby Financial Services.

Top of the transport trauma list is traffic congestion which, according to 37% of owners and managers, has the single biggest negative effect on their businesses.

Other major problems caused by poor transport infrastructure include lost production time due to staff lateness, and customer frustration caused by late deliveries and missed meetings.

The Federation of Small Businesses has called for a combination of long-term strategy and short-term initiatives to tackle transport problems.
