The head of human resources at contract caterer Gardner Merchant has quit
following a shake-up of the HR department.
John Stacey resigned this month because of a decision to split HR among the
firm’s business units.
Two divisional HR directors have taken over Stacey’s role until it is
decided whether to fill the post. A spokeswoman for Gardner Merchant said much
of Stacey’s remit had disappeared as a result of the restructuring.
"Following the changes John Stacey decided to leave," she said.
"He felt his strengths lay elsewhere and he decided he wanted to pursue
other options."
The spokeswoman added that no HR jobs would be axed as a result of the
restructuring. It is not yet known whether staff will have to relocate.
Gardner Merchant, which employs about 55,000 staff in the UK, has lost at
least 10 senior managers in the past two and a half years, including its
chairman and managing director in the past three months.

It plans to expand its services and wants to bring HR closer to individual
business units in order to handle the changes.
Full details of the restructuring programme are expected in the next few
weeks.
