Stress and anxiety poll
As many as 40 million Brits admit to suffering from stress and anxiety, a survey from market research company Mintel has suggested. Just 17% of those polled said they were not experiencing some kind of worry, with one-third beset by at least three concerns.
UK swine flu on the wane
Swine flu cases in the UK are now at their lowest level – 12.5 per 100,000 population – since the early stages of the disease, the chief medical officer for England has said. The level of infection is so low that the National Pandemic Flu Service was closed in February.
Retirement age review
If government plans to review whether or not to remove the default retirement age result in a change more employees will be likely to work into older age, according to consultancy Mercer. This will have implications for HR, pensions and benefits teams, and is something employers need to be planning for. In January, Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman said she wished to change the law to allow people to work beyond the age of 65.
DVT hospital guidance
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice) has published guidance on the care and treatment of people at risk of developing deep vein thrombosis while in hospital in the NHS in England and Wales, replacing guidance produced in 2007.
