Jobs at Vauxhall’s Luton and Ellesmere Port plants safe, promises GM

There will be no further job cuts at Vauxhall, the head of General Motors Europe has pledged.

Nick Reilly, president of GM Europe, said the jobs of 5,000 workers at Vauxhall plants in Ellesmere Port and Luton were safe.

He said: “There will be no forced redundancies at Ellesmere Port and at Luton it is similar. I can tell you there is a strong future for both plants.”

General Motors has already announced that 350 jobs will be cut at Luton as part of the 9,000 jobs that will be lost worldwide.

Reilly added there would be no changes at the Luton plant until 2013, but discussions are still ongoing about what will be developed at the plant after that, the Telegraph reported.
