A black detective has launched a race claim against the Metropolitan Police, claiming that his superior constantly humiliated and undervalued him.
Detective sergeant Gareth Reid has accsed the Met of race discrimination and victimisation, claiming that he was treated differently from white colleagues, and that his superior officer, detective inspector Allison Funnell, looked for excuses to demote him.
Reid said that Funnell treated him like “something repugnant on the soles of her feet”, and that she set out to “destroy” him after learning that he had been a member of the National Black Police Association (NBPA).

Reid lost a previous race claim against the Met in 2003, according to the Telegraph.
The Met, which has faced several racism claims in recent years, is vigorously defending the claim.
