Equalities minister Harriet Harman has defended her re-appointment of Trevor Phillips as the head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
She told BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show: “Fighting for equality is a very controversial thing and it can bring you many enemies as well as friends.”

Six commissioners have left the EHRC in four months and there has been repeated criticism of Phillip’s leadership.
Harman has also this weekend declared that men “cannot be left to run things on their own”. She does “not agree with all-male leaderships”, adding that a balanced team of men and women make “better decisions”.
