More redundancies are on the horizon for UK employees with several more firms announcing that job cuts are likely.
The post-Christmas wave of cuts continues with home shopping firm Grattan set to cut more than 1,000 jobs – almost a third of its workforce.
Koert Tulleners, chief executive of Freeman Grattan Holdings, told the BBC: “Progress on our restructuring plans has been regularly communicated to our staff since being announced in spring 2008, and this next stage will be the most wide-ranging and significant.
“Until consultations are complete we are not in a position to comment or speculate on numbers of jobs and I know this will be a worrying time for [our workers].”
Mobile phone giant Motorola revealed plans to cut 4,000 jobs, on top of the 6,700 it axed last year. It is not known if any of the cuts will affect its UK workforce.

Denby Pottery is in talks with union leaders over redundancies at its outlets across the UK. The firm employs 700 people, with 500 of them working at the headquarters in Denby, Derbyshire.
Meanwhile, up to 240 jobs are under threat at pharmaceutical firm Pfizer’s research and development site in Kent.
