A leading environmental charity has welcomed moves by many of the UK’s biggest companies to reduce business flights.
Backed by the WWF-UK, the Travelling Light report, found three-quarters of FTSE companies polled had taken steps to develop a policy on green business travel as a form of corporate social responsibility.
“Business travel is under the microscope and there has been a significant change in company attitudes,” WWF-UK transport policy officer Jean Leston told Personnel Today’s sister publication Travel Weekly.
“Our report revealed that there is a real appetite among many of the UK’s biggest businesses to reduce the numbers of flights they take.”
Of the 100 companies polled, almost nine in 10 expected to cut flights over the next decade, with 85% seeing video conferencing as a way to achieve this.

The charity’s One in Five campaign is asking companies in the UK’s FTSE 350 group to axe one in five business flights over the next five years.
Offsetting the CO2 produced by flights will not count towards the reduction, and businesses will have to drop flights completely to qualify for an award.
