UK Coal opens Daw (Mill Colliery) to former miners as it announces recruitment drive at Europe’s largest pit

Former coalminers are being given a chance to return to the pits after UK Coal announced a recruitment drive at its Warwickshire colliery.

Britain’s largest coal producer said it wanted to hire 24 workers at Daw Mill Colliery to mine new reserves and work on other projects at the pit.

UK Coal HR director Norman Haslam said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people who have left the industry in recent years or gone elsewhere in mining to work at the biggest colliery in Europe.

UK Coal supplys about 7% of the country’s energy needs for electricity generation. The company has four deep mines located in Central and Northern England with substantial reserves and employs 3,500 people.
