Up to 1,800 jobs are under threat at high street entertainment retailer ChoicesUK, after a decision to go into administration.
The seller of DVDs and video games has appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers as its administrator, after it failed to secure a sale of the business, or refinancing.
ChoicesUK employs about 1,800 staff at 170 stores across the UK. The group has shed 250 jobs since September, along with a number of stores as part of a restructuring drive.
It said in a statement: “Until very recently, the directors were hopeful that a successful outcome would result. However, despite extensive negotiations, it has not been possible to reach an agreement on terms acceptable to all parties.

“Therefore, the directors have decided that it is in the best interests of the creditors to seek to appoint administrators as soon as possible,” it added.
In July, independent music retailer Fopp also went into administration, with the loss of 700 jobs. Fopp took over 67 stores from failed competitor Music Zone in February.
