The Independent Safeguarding Authority creates 200 jobs at Darlington head office

The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) is to create up to 200 jobs at its new headquarters in Darlington.

The new body is actively seeking to recruit a chief executive for the new body which has been created to protect children and vulnerable adults through checks on those employed to work with them.

The ISA will begin operations from autumn 2008 and will replace ministerial decision making when assessing who should be barred from working in posts which involve close contact with children and vulnerable adults.

The authority aims to reform vetting and barring practices created by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act  and will work in tandem with the Criminal Records Bureau.
