Working Time Directive could be back on European agenda

The saga that is the Working Time Directive (WTD) could soon be back on the European agenda, according to Philip Bushill-Matthews, Conservative MEP.

Amendments to the directive were put on hold in November after ministers failed to reach agreement on the opt-out clause to the 48-hour working week.

It appeared the WTD would remain sidelined for the foreseeable future, but Bushill-Matthews told Personnel Today that it could return sooner than expected. “Things are going on behind the scenes. We are working on a solution towards [resolving] the blocking of the directive.”
