Investors in People names HCM board members

by Personnel Today 5 Jul 2006
by Personnel Today 5 Jul 2006

Investors in People (IIP) has finally unveiled the details of its human capital management (HCM) standards group board.

The board, which will officially meet for the first time on 12 July, has been tasked with developing a generic set of employee measures for company reports.

The main standards group, which is made up of 15 HR experts from private industry, business groups and academic organisations, will be backed up by a number of associate members.

IIP has been working on putting the group together since last autumn, when its chief executive Ruth Spellman exclusively revealed the plans to Personnel Today.

At the time, Spellman refuted claims from Denise Kingsmill – the chair of the government’s Accounting for People Taskforce – that one set of metrics to measure human capital would not be effective.

“I don’t share her view,” said Spellman. “I think it is possible. My brain tells me it has got to be possible to come up with some metrics.

“How do you measure the value of your other assets? You use a rule of thumb, don’t you? It’s an accountancy convention that is used to measure hundreds of other things,” she added.
