London Underground workers are planning a three-day strike starting on 19 December in a protest over planned job cuts. About 1,800 workers at maintenance firm Metronet voted by a margin of 78% in favour of a walkout. However, Bob Crow, head of the RMT union, said strike will be cancelled if an agreement with management is reached by Friday. A pre-Christmas strike would hurt retailers in the West End who are already struggling with slowing consumer spending. The union is protesting against planned job cuts and outsourcing of jobs as Metronet aims to reduce costs. Another 4,000 RMT members employed by London Underground are voting on whether to strike over the proposed transfer of 500 workers, said Crow.
