The Society of Personnel Officers in the public sector (Socpo) is urging its members to conduct equal pay audits and help ensure pay equality. Socpo recently launched a guide – How to Conduct Equal Pay Audits – to help its members understand the issues involved. Produced in conjunction with the Institute of Employment Studies, the guide gives Socpo members a practical tool to help them through the process of conducting an audit. Alan Warner, president of Socpo, said: “We all know that it is good practice to conduct equal pay audits. A key aspect of strong diversity practice is to ensure equality in pay systems. Only by conducting an equal pay audit can an organisation really get to grips with where potential problems may lie”. Phil Badley, chair of the Diversity Network that produced the guide
“The public sector needs to be leading the way in addressing the root causes of pay inequality, and a good starting point is to conduct an audit,” he said.
