Unions focus on four big issues prior to election

With “probably six months until an election”, TUC general secretary Brendan Barber has outlined four priorities, which unionists say the Government must address.

Speaking at the latest HR Directors Club event at The Orangery at Kensington Palace in London, Barber listed pensions, skills, quality of working life and diversity as being top of the agenda.

“There is a huge interest in pensions and a sense of the crisis we face,” he said. “There was a time when you left [pensions] to a few anoraks. That is certainly no longer the case.”

Barber said he hoped HR would soon be given higher status in the boardroom.

The Personnel Today HR Directors Club is supported by Arinso, DBM, Hays, Hammonds, PeopleSoft, and Vertex.
