Capital businesses accused of neglecting training

London
businesses are failing to provide the vital training and development needed to
increase the skills base of thousands of workers throughout the Capital, it is
claimed.

Research
from the London Central Learning Skills Council (LCLSC) reveals that of the
130,000 employers within the City, less than half have training plans in place
and even less have a training budget.

Tony
Nelson, director of skills and workforce development at the LCLSC said:
"If London is to deliver a high-performance economy, we need skilled
workers. We want to work with employers to address this and provide responsive
training.

"Investment
in people is not a money issue," he said. "London has the eighth
largest group economy in the European Union. The goal does not involve working
harder and the resources are already there – it is about working in partnership
to promote learning throughout the entire workforce."
