The Government has set out plans to help people with mental
health problems get better access to employment.
One adult in six suffers from common mental health problems
such as depression and anxiety. Often these people do not have the support they
need to participate fully in society, according to health minister, Rosie
Winterton.
Government figures show that less than a quarter of people
with mental health problems are in work.
Winterton will launch a five-year strategic plan to tackle
stigma and discrimination on mental health grounds.
Government plans include:
● improved
training on mental health issues for Jobcentre Plus staff
● support
for those interested in enterprise and self-employment
● clarifying
benefit rules for people wanting to return to work and
