Stalked nurses can help research

Nurses who have been stalked or pestered at work have been asked to help
researchers at the University of Sheffield, the Royal College of Nursing and
Rutgers University in New Jersey in the US to ascertain the scale of the

Purine-rich foods cause gout

New research shows a high intake of purine-rich meat (particularly red
meats) and seafood significantly increases the risk of developing gout. The
study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, also found a high
intake of dairy products, particularly low-fat dairy items, is an extremely

Health professionals should do more to raise awareness that smoking can
cause blindness, according to researchers. Smokers are up to four times more
likely to become blind in later life as a result of age-related macular
degeneration (AMD) than non-smokers, but are largely unaware of this risk, said
the study in the British Medical Journal, which argued that a sustained public
