Civilian police scheme suffers ‘major setback’

A
Government-backed initiative to recruit civilian officers to help with policing
is suffering massive disciplinary problems and a shortfall in training, a
newspaper report has claimed.

Senior
officers are investigating the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) scheme
amid claims of poor training and victimisation by regular officers.

An
investigation by The Guardian newspaper claims the scheme is plagued
with disciplinary problems, with as many as 64 PCSOs currently being
reprimanded.

The
scheme was launched by the Home Office in September with funding provided for
around 1,000 officers in the Capital.
