A
Scottish union official tipped to become the next leader of the GMB was forced
to resign yesterday after the union paid out £50,000 in a sexual discrimination
case brought against him.
According
to the Scotsman newspaper, Robert Parker, 44, is expected to walk away with a
payoff of a year’s salary – amounting to about the same amount as his victim
will receive – in what the union calls "a mark of compassion".
The
newspaper said the tribunal process has already cost the GMB more than £200,000
in legal fees.

Parker
was one of three candidates for the national general secretary’s job.
