The
number of people out of work and claiming benefits has fallen to a 27-year low
according to the latest figures.
The
Office for National Statistics said the claimant count dropped by 4,500 to
940,500, leaving a jobless rate of 3.1 per cent.
However,
the Government’s preferred measure – The Labour Force Survey (LFS) – actually
measured a rise in unemployment.
The
system tries to include those out of work but not claiming benefits, and using
these parameters, the jobless rate is at its highest level since 2000.
According
to the LFS, unemployment rose by 45,000 in the three months to September,
rising from 5.1 per cent to 5.3 per cent or 1.541 million people.
