The
Government must introduce more family-friendly policies to encourage female
scientists to continue with research and break into the male-dominated sector,
a leading neurobiologist has warned.
Baroness
Greenfield, herself a scientist, told ministers that job shares and grants for
women returning to work after having children must be introduced to stem the
tide of women scientists leaving the profession.
In
a report to the DTI, Greenfield called for a national scheme to encourage women
to return to work, a database of female scientists and more job sharing.
